Special needs parenting is a marathon. You know? It is a journey which is not for the faint-hearted.
As in any child-rearing, we have only once to carry out our best, but with our special needs kiddos, we end up with twice the on-duty time. Our efforts require great emotional strength and character that goes beyond the normal raising of kids. It also requires additional people to help us.
When we read this verse, we think of our faith in Christ, and we should. It was its original intention: to focus us on keeping ourselves pure before Christ, because we are running a race in life. The race to stay the course, listening to the Holy Spirit and finding peace because we do. Plus, what an incredible resource to listen to and follow the Holy Spirit to help us with some of life’s most incredible challenges! Life is a marathon, and we keep running until we hand off the baton at the end of our lives.
First, we listen to the Holy Spirit. Then, we act.
